About

Type of work: Matte Painting

This is one of many repetitive shots which characterise this film. The surreal suburbs of Vivarium present a nightmarish vision of suburban perfection taken to its most unsettling extreme. The development, known as Yonder, consists of endless rows of identical mint-green houses, each a perfect replica of the next, stretching infinitely in every direction across an unnaturally flat landscape.

The architecture itself is sterile and artificial, with the houses featuring clean geometric lines, uniform windows, and doors that seem more like facades than functional entrances. The lawns are an unnatural, almost plastic-looking green, maintained in perfect condition without any signs of organic variation or natural wear. The streets form a maze-like grid system where every turn leads to another identical street lined with the same houses.

The sky above this suburban purgatory appears artificial and oppressive, often displaying an unnaturally bright, almost painted quality that never seems to change or show realistic weather patterns.

All of this was painted and textured on top of copies of 3D models.
