About
Type of work: Matte Painting
This shot was a lot of fun to work on, simply because the laws of physics and perspective don't apply here. In the film Hinterland, the world operates outside normal visual reality, and in this particular scene, the buildings refuse to follow straight lines or conform to any traditional perspective grid from an artistic standpoint.
The integration of each architectural element was constrained only by the need to maintain realistic and uniform lighting conditions across the composition, but beyond that fundamental requirement, everything else was governed by chaos and complete creative freedom. This liberated approach allowed for pure artistic expression, unbound by the technical limitations that typically define matte painting work.
