Type of work: Matte Painting

Top-down matte paintings are always enjoyable to create but present unique challenges, particularly because reference materials from aerial perspectives are much less abundant than other viewpoints. The scarcity of overhead sources means I often have to work more inventively, piecing together limited references or extrapolating details from ground-level imagery.

However, when all the elements finally align and the perspective feels authentic, the process becomes incredibly rewarding. There’s something deeply satisfying about successfully creating this bird’s-eye view, revealing spatial relationships and layouts that aren’t visible from conventional angles. The technical puzzle of making everything work cohesively from above makes the extra effort worthwhile.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
